Just another day

Ok, I lied. I am going to rant here. Feel free to skip it.

Turned 24 today. Was a typical, depressing Monday and I’m a year older to enjoy it, and for shits and giggles let’s add to it the craptastic weather thanks to Katrina. None of my nearby friends (well, one called but didn’t remember my birthday…) called me. I guess the hurricane was a distraction…but I’m starting to get a feeling that if you’re not a long distance friend AND soul mate ::cough::, etc. etc., you don’t matter anymore once you’re out of town. Oh, and let’s add a fiancee to the list of the indifferent. He told me to “stop acting so depressed” when I had a cryfest earlier…haven’t had one of those in a while. Now he’s playing some X-box game he got from Gamefly. Hell, my co-worker was the most attentive today — he’s taking me out for lunch tomorrow. He had offered to take me today but had some meeting.

Now I’m not one to crave attention; I’m usually the opposite, wanting no focus on me whatsoever. But sometimes it’s nice to know that someone’s thinking of you.

Instead of whining about it, I should just accept it … it’s only going to get more depressing, especially when I STOP looking forward to this day.

The day wasn’t a complete loss. I still spent half the day on the phone with some good friends out of state who wished me well. Got a cute card, homemade chocolate chip cookies and a very, very nice waffle iron from my friend in Austin — it makes mini Mickey Mouse shaped waffles. Completely made my week!!! My parents bought me a super nice Zojirushi rice cooker. I must be getting old if I’m getting excited about kitchen appliances…
My best friend FINALLY got her package today from an online store after TWO months, so I enjoyed her gifts vicariously through her. :) Just in time too, since they’re moving out today. Heh.

My parents visited us over the weekend. It was a pretty short visit, but it was good to see them. Mom hated my couch and my cat, but at least she complimented my dining table (trust me, this is a BIG deal that she likes something I picked out). We visited a Volkswagen dealership, and I found a practically brand new 2002 Beetle with only 20k mileage, fully loaded. $18,200 but I’m trying to negotiate about $16k. The dealer’s supposed to call me back tomorrow to talk about my options…he’s really trying to push for me to lease a 2006 Jetta instead. Not too sure about that. There’s a used 2003 Mini Cooper, also fully loaded, with 42k mileage. Price is $18,900. I’d much prefer the Mini, but it’s not a Certified Pre-owned, it’s out of warranty, and there isn’t a single Mini dealership in this state.

Who knows…maybe I’ll have a (semi) new car by the end of this week. :)

Pooky update: She’s learned four tricks so far (sit, lie down, roll over, and silly girl - when she shakes her tushie at me). The only really cool unlockables so far are sunglasses, a viking hat and lots of hair bows. She’s doing very well with her disc catching, but she freaks out at the seesaw during agility trials. I almost have enough for another dog…maybe in a week or two. :)

Gah! Amy, I hit the wrong button and deleted your comment. Crap, crap, crap.
Thanks for the birthday wishes…not belated at all!
Katrina didn’t affect us much…just a lot of winds, a few tornadoes. Tomorrow’s going to be an ugly day too. :p

Lots of blogs recently about the new Mickey Mouse cell phones, but now comes the Mickey Mouse waffle iron….
